Material to Composition
The work of Quirijn Menken stems from material, experiment, and visual tension. Mixed Media forms the basis for research into layer, surface, texture, and composition.

Quirijn Menken works with mixed media, exploring the relationship between material, texture, and composition. The portfolio displays a wide selection of images, experiments, and finished works.
Every work begins with the surface — the ground, the layer, the coincidence of matter — and grows into a layered composition in which tension and tranquility balance each other.
Next to being a Visual Artist, he is also doing Artistic Research and has developed a Pedagogy based on the Bilderatlas of Aby Warburg and French Philosopher Gilles Deleuze: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Quirijn-Menken.
